«In the beginning was the Word

and the Word was with God

and the Word was a God.

He was in the beginning with God:

all things were made by him;

and without him was not any thing

made that was made.»

Gospel according to John

Introduction

Platonism describes the idea of Archetypes as the models of the inanimate or animate things of the physical world. All creation is such thanks to them, but this does not mean that we can associate a well-defined shape with them as with the physical objects that surround us. These models are nothing but thought-beings, and as such by their nature they tend to change, or rather to metamorphose into other forms rapidly. Furthermore, the archetype thanks to this ability to transform itself differs from its corresponding physical form.

Just as someone who molds a piece of clay finds himself starting from an ovoid block and by slowly moving the material with his fingers he manages to model various increasingly complex figures, such as the egg becomes the chick, or the bud the flower, so the works represented suggest these metamorphoses of forms.

The titles of the paintings help the observer to understand the path decided by the artist who gives his vision of the spiritual world from which all the knowable is created, arriving at the conclusion that reality is nothing but the whole of coexisting at the same time of opposites: love-hate, good-evil, light-darkness, time-timelessness, youth-old age, progress-regression, and so on, placed not in opposition to each other, but used in their communion. In this way man has at his disposal all the infinite nuances that make up the world, precious points of view for his spiritual growth.

These works are oils on engraved panel and on canvas and range from 2007 to 2011.

The thought of being,

1.The thought of being, oil on panel, 20x20cm, 2007.

The thought form of divine thought hovers projecting its shadow on a plane, in a metaphysical space. Everything is suspended in an indeterminate space and time. The monochrome underlines this space of the mind which underlies the idea to its principle. It could become a flower, a water lily floating on the water.

2.The Shape of Thought, oil and engraving on panel, 15x20cm, 2007.

A thought form hovers in the space of the mind. The monochrome color of the mental virtual blackboard draws a trilobed shape, the initial shape is differentiating, metamorphosing into something else.

3.The lightness of being, oil on canvas, 18x24cm, 2007.

The thought form lashing the space of the mind. In the monochromatic color of the mental blackboard a shape appears, it looks like a leaf which, unable to fall to the ground, is eternalized in that timeless instant.

4.The horizon of suspended thoughts, oil and engraving on panel, 53x30cm, 2007.

On the horizon of this metaphysical space at the dawn of creation appear, like ghosts suspended in the air, three thought forms whose long afternoon shadow takes up most of the scene. In this semi-darkness the thought shines and gives shape by sketching three long-limbed forms which in turn radiate light as if it were thought that illuminates the surrounding space.

5.Monad, oil on canvas, 50x60cm, 2008.

The monad is reached when two thoughts that originally seem opposites merge together giving rise to something new and complete. It stands in the foreground, casting the midday shadow on the ground in the warmth of a languid space barely warmed by the divine light.

Triad

6.Triad, oil and engraving on wood, 50x70cm, 2008.

The triad represents the attainment of the divine triangle, the perfection, transformation and fulfillment of man in the superior man. The three shapes stand suspended in the air in the warmer and more enveloping midday light.

7.The archetypes of form, oil on canvas, 50x70cm, 2009.

The three figures stand on a horizon that heralds the metamorphosis of their shape. The light coming from above casts their shadow on the ground below them. The background is like a moving sky that is constantly changing. Like the sails of a boat they stand out against this sky, furrowing the eternal.

The archetypes of the transitory

8.The archetypes of the transitory, oil on canvas, 60x60cm, 2010.

Feelings are the most transitory part of our being, they change constantly. Thin shapes like feathers in the wind parade through this afternoon space, with their elongated shadows. Behind a sky that varies from a dark and dramatic state to flashes of light that shine through this windswept tangle.

What is reality?

9. What is reality?, oil on canvas, 50x70cm, 2011.

A trefoil figure stands suspended above an islet floating in a calm sea. At the top, a rounded shape casts a shadow and partially covers the sun that can be glimpsed in the centre. On the horizon, as in a game of mirrors, two other similar figures can be glimpsed, suspended above a desert. This is the imaginative answer to the question posed in the title. Reality is given as a set of various concepts, but in the end the truth is only one and only, in its complexity.

Contemporaneity

10.Contemporaneity, oil on canvas, 50x70cm, 2011.

The central shape is very similar to the one in the background and the one above upside down. This rises above a desert with a geometric design in the center of a square within a circle, on which she casts her shadow. A pale sun is located in the center just above the figure. The contemporaneity indicates the syncretism that takes shape in our reality. The circle as a symbol of the sky and the square as a symbol of the earth live in our reality at the same time. Thought is condensed spirit.
